From our family to yours – Traditional sweet making with a contemporary twist

The Australian Sweet Company is an Australian family-owned and operated business that grew out of a family love of all things sweet.

My introduction into the sweet candy manufacturing business is a funny one when four years ago I took a much needed break from a career in the aged care sector. Wanting to return to work, but not to aged care, I was browsing online and found an advert for a job in my local area for a “Lolly Production/Packaging Assistant”. I explained a story to my husband of a job I had as a youth, working on a lollipop production line and how I really enjoyed it and always wanted to do it again… So I applied, with a resume based on care giving and a cover letter asking for a chance.
Donna took the chance and we have never looked back.. I love working with my hands and creating things using old fashioned methods and working at Australian Sweet Co where I was able to do both… 15 hours soon turned into a hyper focused passion and my growth started. Understanding the basics of business though my husband and a strong connection with the team as well as Donna as a strong leader and mentor has all led to where we are today.
Brittle Bay was launched and we will continue Australian Sweet Co into the future.

The Original Story Started back in 2012 With Mother & Daughter Team, Nell & Donna

Nell had been in the confectionery business for over fifteen years. She knows sweet making! With Donna's background in mechanical engineering and a fascination with how things work, they wanted to pool our talents to create something wonderful.

In 2012, they saw an opportunity to start a business together, making a small range of peanut brittle varieties. They were astonished by how popular they were, and quickly discovered that people yearned for traditional-style sweets crafted from quality ingredients.  And quickly expanded the range to include traditional rock candies and boiled sweets.

 

Inspired to offer customers greater variety, they purchased Ropan Candy Makers in WA. Bringing all the sweet-making equipment back to Melbourne, where they set up expanding the confectionery factory in Seaford. Now able to add gobstoppers to the range and began to experiment with new peanut brittle varieties. We now offer thirteen different variations of peanut brittle!

All of the sweets are handcrafted from the finest ingredients, sourced locally wherever possible, to deliver a quality product that is far superior to its mass-produced counterparts. Our entire range is naturally gluten-free, without compromising on flavour.

Following time-honoured recipes, they created a scrumptious range of brittles, rock candies, lollipops and gobstoppers that includes all of your old favourites along with exciting new flavours and texture combinations.

These days, Donna channelled her engineering knowledge into process improvements and developing new products. Mum works right alongside me, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
